Clyde Fair returns Sept. 20-22 with royalty contests, cute babies, classic cars grand prix

The Clyde Fair returns Sept. 20-22 with many traditional events ranging from the annual baby and queens contests, kids tent, car show and Go Kart Grand Prix.

The fair kicks off the afternoon of Sept. 20 with rides and vendors plus the annual Queens Contest, which is at 5 p.m. on the Main Stage on North Main Street in front of the Municipal Building.

Royalty contests add Little Miss, Junior Queen

Added to the royalty contests are Clyde Fair Little Miss Contest for ages 8 to 11 who live in the Clyde-Green Springs school district and Junior Queen for ages 12 to 15. The Queens Contest is for females ages 16 to 19. Girls in the Queen and Junior Queen contests must be Sandusky County residents. Deadline to enter is Sept. 17. Linda Black, a member of the Clyde Fair Board, said there will be bingo Sept. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the big tent behind the municipal building while the Sage Trio will perform from 7:30-10:30 p.m. on the main stage.

Alexa Brown 5K notes 15th year

On Sept. 21, the morning kicks off with the 15th Alexa Brown Memorial Run at 8 a.m. on West Buckeye Street, with the Kids 1K Butterfly Run at 8:15 a.m. That will be followed by the 5K at 8:45 a.m. Runners may register 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on race day or visit Alexa Brown 5K.

"This money goes to childhood research," said 5K organizer Wendy Brown, who lost her daughter Alexa to childhood cancer. Wendy, her husband Warren and their family help to organize the 5K. Funds raised through the Memorial 5K will support St. Jude Research Hospital.

The 5K generated $17,000 in 2023 and has drawn between 450 to 500 runners in recent years.

Register for Baby Contest by Sept. 17

At the other end of Clyde Fair, new parents and grandparents will be attending the annual Baby Contest. The contest for babies and toddlers up to 30 months is in the main tent. There is a $5 registration fee. Babies must be registered between Monday and 3:45 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Clyde City Manager's Office. No child born before March 21, 2022, may participate. Ages are broken into five age groups and boys and girls.

Trophies are awarded for each age group and a top boy and top girl. No costumes are needed.

The fair continues Sept. 21 with the Grand Parade Pet Parade at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Street. Call Groomers Corner at 419-547-3647 for entry and details .

Grand Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday

The Grand Parade steps off at 1 p.m. Sept. 21. Line-up will be at the Whirlpool parking lot on Spring Street. The route will travel from Vine Street to Amanda Street to Main Street south to Clyde Elementary School. Entries must report by 12:30 p.m. There is no registration fee for the parade and awards will be presented at the main stage afterward. Also on Sept. 21, there will be activities in the kids tent with Sillie Tillie from 2 to 5 p.m. and Magic Nate at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. The evening entertainment will be The Together Band at 7:30 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Go Kart Grand Prix now longest-running street race

On Sept. 22, the biggest events will be the annual car show and the 32nd annual Clyde Go Kart Grand Prix.

Grand prix organizer Brad Smith said, "We normally have been doing just shy of 100 entries." Not only does the race draw in participants from four to six states, the Clyde Grand Prix is now the longest-running street race in the county, Smith said.

Racers are from ages 7 to people in their 70s in the vintage class, he said. The grand prix is run on the city streets and covers a multi-block area blocked off by fencing and hay-bale barriers. The Go Kart Grand Prix has sign-in starting at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 22 with practice rounds at 11 a.m. and races beginning at 1 p.m. There are multiple go kart classes.

Smith said money classes in the Grand Prix are sponsored by Fremont Speedway and Rich Farmer. For information, go to Clyde Grand Prix on Facebook.

Classic car show could fill downtown streets

The 41st annual Clyde Fair Car Show is open to all makes and models. Registration is 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 22 with the free show running 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be trophies for the top 10 entries plus dash plaques for the first 100 entries. Vehicles will be lined up along Main Street and Buckeye Street.

Other fun Sept. 22 will be the kids tent with Sillie Tillie between 1 and 4 p.m. and COSI from 1-5 p.m.

A children's tractor pull will be held at 2 p.m., with registration at 1 p.m.

For the evening, TAZE will hold karaoke on the Main Stage.
