College student called 'crazy' for her viral essay about her fiance's ex-girlfriend
A young woman is going viral for her first person essay focusing on her fiancé’s high school sweetheart.
The post, which was published on The Odyssey by Victoria Higgins, a student at Missouri State University, sees the bride compare her upcoming wedding day to the prom he attended with his ex-girlfriend. “Sometimes I have issues with jealousy,” she wrote, “and I hate that you got all of the high school stuff with him.”
“I hate that you got to go to all of the school dances with him. He got to see you all dressed up and probably told you how great you looked. I’m sure you did look great. Prom dresses were always fun to pick out and so colorful. It was exciting to match colors with your date. I am sure you had fun choosing his matching tux to your dress,” the article continued.
But, as Higgins went on to say, she finds herself getting jealous but then stops because she got to match her future husband’s tux with their wedding colors, go shopping in a “sea of white” for a dress to wear to their nuptials, and he’ll get to see her walk down the aisle “and then every day forever. I get to love him forever.”
She concludes by saying that she tries not to get jealous of all the things her fiancé and his ex-girlfriend did together in the past “because it is all in the past. You had your time, and now I get the wedding. You got to dress up in high school, but I get to dress up for my wedding with him. He may have put a corsage on your wrist, but he will be putting the wedding ring on my finger.”
The story, which has been viewed nearly half a million times, has been criticized for being out of touch, and many even have said that Higgins is too young to get married based on immaturity and jealousy issues.
I am 100% positive this person is not emotionally ready for marriage https://t.co/XgW7bPQrq9

I wrote an entire book about why women aren’t crazy but this article seeks to destroy everything I (and any normal woman) stand for… I also can’t wait for this to be a Lifetime movie. https://t.co/W0YhDMktib

This piece is one example of why I sometimes think, in all seriousness, that the minimum age for marriage should be 30. https://t.co/njC8ZvIRmahttps://t.co/IvSA6qwM2S
