The only color Meghan Markle has worn since becoming a royal figure is green
Meghan Markle continues to surprise people in her role as a soon-to-be royal. But when it comes to her wardrobe, she’s pretty predictable: She’s obsessed with the color green.
The observation was first made by the style blog Meghan’s Mirror, which tweeted Saturday: “Interesting that other than the basics (white, grey, navy, black), the only color #MeghanMarkle has worn clothing-wise as a representative of the Royal Family is green.”

It’s a spot-on observation. Since emerging into the public eye thanks to her engagement to Prince Harry, Markle has been stepping out in head-to-toe green or adding pops of the color to her otherwise neutral outfits.
To accompany Harry to the Invictus Games reception in London over the weekend, Markle wore a green floral Self-Portrait dress ($510), which she paired with a black blazer and pumps.
Earlier this month, Markle wrapped herself in a khaki-green trench coat by Babaton for Aritzia to watch the U.K. team trials for the Invictus Games at the University of Bath Sports Training Village.
In March, during an official royal tour of the U.K., she stepped out in Northern Ireland wearing a forest-green Greta Constantine knee-length skirt, a white Victoria Beckham cashmere sweater, a tan-colored trench coat by Mackage, and copper-colored Manolo Blahnik heels.
During her first official visit to Wales in January, Markle spiced up a basic black-and-navy outfit with a dark-green tasseled handbag by DeMellier London.
Her most notable nod to the color: To announce her engagement to Harry, Markle wore a green Parosh dress, the hem of which peeked out from under her white, belted coat by the Canadian brand Line the Label.

Markle could easily have chosen purple, the unofficial shade of royalty, as her signature hue. However, according to royal expert Rob Shuter, the editor in chief of Naughty Gossip, green is a strategic move by the royal-in-training. “Second to blue, green is the most popular shade for women in Britain,” he tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Meghan might be sending the message that she’s really no different than anyone else.”
Green is also the color of the British suffrage movement (as noted when Kate Middleton bucked all black in honor of #MeToo and wore a green dress to BAFTA awards in February) and, given Markle’s history of fighting for women’s rights, wearing the color could be a statement.
Ultimately, says Shuter, Markle understands the royal dress code, which frowns on flashy details. So, green allows her to maintain her individualism while also keeping tradition. “Meghan is a smart, media-savvy woman,” he says. “She still wants to be noticed.”
