Colorado beer company the newest brewery on the block in South Slope

ASHEVILLE - From the Rockies to the Blue Ridge Mountains, a Colorado brewery has expanded with a second location in Asheville.

On March 15, Trve Brewing Company opened at 255 Short Coxe Ave., the former location of Eurisko Beer Co., which closed last November.

Trve Brewing started in Denver, but the company has deep connections to Asheville’s craft beer industry.

The brewery, founded 11 years ago, is co-owned by Founder Nick Nunns, Chief Operating Officer EJ Nunns, and Head Brewer Zach Coleman.

EJ Nunns, who has lived in Asheville since 2002, began working in the beer industry as the brand manager for Wicked Weed Brewing in 2012, then accepted a position as Head of Marketing for Burial Beer Co. in 2016.

“Those experiences provided me with an unparalleled vantage point and perspective on NC beer, and business and I am excited to pair that with the expertise, uniqueness, and perspective of Nick, Zach, and our Trve team,” EJ Nunns said in a news release. “There is a lot of symbiosis for TRVE in Asheville and, honestly, a lot of healthy antagonism.”

The company’s branding and ethos promote heavy metal music and agriculturally sustainable, quality craft beer.

Trve Brewing’s craft beer menu features core brands like the Cold Kellerpils, Tunnel of Trees IPA, Bloodaxe Nordic Ale, plus seasonal and limited selection brews included from its mixed culture sour program.

The North Carolina-sourced ingredients may put a twist on the beers, but the same recipes will be used from its Colorado brewery.

“Working directly with suppliers to source killer local ingredients has been a central focus of our beer program for many years, and now we get to explore what that means in a new place,” Coleman said in a news release. “It lets us express the beautiful terroir that this state has to offer, and that’s very exciting. We’ll also be making beers specifically for Asheville that reflect what people here want to drink, so you can expect to see new beers that are only available in this location.”

The first beer brewed at the Asheville brewery was in collaboration with the former Eurisko Beer Co., Glastonbury Grove, a lager featuring locally sourced malts and wheat and traditional German hops and available at the South Slope taproom only.

Trve Brewing’s hours of operation are 3-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 12 p.m.-12 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 12-10 p.m. Sunday.
