Here comes the boom: Lights Over Lake Erie fireworks show returns July 3

The skies above Presque Isle Bay will once again explode, boom and flash with color on July 3.

Erie Mayor Joe Schember's administration on Thursday announced details of the city's annual Lights Over Lake Erie fireworks display, which returns to Dobbins Landing one day before the July 4 holiday.

Once again, the fireworks display will be presented by Pyrotecnico Fireworks of New Castle.

Show time; where to watch

The display will begin about 10 p.m. on July 3. City officials said residents/visitors can watch the fireworks from several vantage points along Erie's waterfront, including the east and west bayfront bluffs; Presque Isle State Park; from a boat in Presque Isle Bay, or from almost anywhere that provides a view of the Bicentennial Tower.

Fireworks partnership

The city is once again collaborating with the Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority for Lights Over Lake Erie. The event is funded in part by a $15,000 events grant from the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority.

Parking/transportation

The Erie Parking Authority will provide free parking at select downtown parking garages for those attending the fireworks. The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority will run free shuttle buses to/from those garages.

Adrienne Nannen, the city's events manager, said city officials are encouraging residents to use the parking garages/shuttles, or park downtown and walk to the bayfront, to alleviate traffic and congestion.
