The Garfield Park Aquatic Center is offering a Senior Splash for those 60 years old and older each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Royal reading event planned at Westville library

Children are invited to Read with a Queen on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Noon, at the Westville Public Library.

The 2023 Westville Labor Day Queen will host a program for all. There will be refreshments, Anna will read a story and help kids make a craft.

The library is located at 233 S. State St., Westville.

DACC Board of Trustees to meet

There will be a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Community College No. 507, Counties of Vermilion, Edgar, Iroquois, Champaign, and Ford, State of Illinois, on Monday, July 29, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Board Room, Vermilion Hall Room 302, at Danville Area Community College, 2000 East Main St.

'Taps on Tuesday' set for July 30

The "Taps on Tuesday" program on July 30 will be held at Soldiers Circle in Spring Hill Cemetery, starting at 6 p.m. Taps will be sounded in honor of all veterans, and in particular family members of those in attendance.

Taps on Tuesday is presented by the Vermilion County War Museum and the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable.

Project Success enrolling students

Project Success of Vermilion County is enrolling seventh through twelfth grade Danville students into its After Hours Program.

This free program is held Monday-Thursday, from 4-6:30 p.m., at the Danville Family YMCA. The program offers activities such as field trips, STEM, art, Cooking Club, DIY Club, guest speakers and more.

Church to have rummage, bake sale

Bethel Lutheran Church, 901 W. Fairchild, will be having their annual rummage and bake sale today, Saturday, July 27, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds go to local charities.

Gospel Sing set for July 27

Morey Chapel Church of Christ, 19194 East 1100 North Road, will have a gospel sing today, Saturday, July 27, at 5:30 p.m. Performing will be New Creation, from Assumption.

A carry-in meal will follow the concert.

Library to have adult Spelling Bee

Hoopeston Public Library is hosting its first Adult Spelling Bee at 2 p.m., Monday, July 29.

This fun event is open to all adults age 18 and up.

Participants will compete against each other in multiple rounds. The top speller will win a special prize and there will be lots of fun and goodies for all participants.

Pettice family reunion planned

The Pettice family will have its annual reunion on Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Hideaway in Kennekuk County Park on Henning Road.

Lunch will be served at Noon. Those attending should bring a covered dish to share.

Library plans Teddy Bear Picnic

Friends of the Westville Library will host a Teddy Bear Picnic on Aug. 8, at 11 a.m., at the Westville Public Library, 233 South State St, Westville. The event is for children ages Kindergarten through second grade.

Kids will enjoy lunch, story time, craft and a fun scavenger hunt. Each child will also be entered into a drawing for a new Teddy Bear.

Bring a blanket and your favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal.

Preregistration is required no later than Aug. 6. Call 217-267-3170 to register.

The library will also show the movie "Migration" at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Refreshments will be served.

South Side Church to have VBS

South Side Church of Christ, 611 Forrest, will have Vacation Bible School on Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for ages K through grade 10. All are welcome. The theme is "Walk with Jesus Daily."
