Sep. 11—MomCo to meet today
MomCo, a group for moms in any stage of life, will meet today, Sept. 12, at 9 a.m., at Danville First Church of the Nazarene, 2212 N. Vermilion St. The group provides an opportunity for woman to gather and find a community of others experiencing similar life stages.
Childcare is provided.
Antique Automobile Club to meet
The Illiana Antique Automobile Club will have their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m., today, Sept. 12, at Ridgeview Baptist Church, 3838 North Vermilion St. Final plans for the fall car show on Sept. 21 will be completed.
Museum to present quilt program
The Vermilion County Museum Society, 116 N. Gilbert St., will present Material Magic, A Quilt Trunk Program by Ellen Monson on Sept. 14, at Noon.
Monson will describe her quilts, patterns, material choices, designs and techniques. As a fundraising effort for the Museum, Monson will have select pieces for purchase. Lunch will be provided by Applewood Foods: glazed chicken, rosemary potatoes, honey dill carrots, and pumpkin crumble.
Tickets for Material Magic are $25 per person. To reserve a seat, call 217-442-2922, Tuesday through Thursday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Free concert planned in Covington
A free People's Choice Concert provided by Rick Deardorff will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, from 5-7 p.m. (EDT) around the Courthouse Square in Covington. Dogg Pound BBQ and Michelle's Shake Ups will be set up from 4-7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
This free concert is open to the public and sponsored by the City of Covington and AT Marketing.
SWCD to meet Sept. 17
The regular board meeting of the Vermilion County SWCD will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 8:30 a.m. at the USDA Service Center, 1905-A U.S. Route 150, Danville.
Sweet Adelines present 'Moppin' Up Memories'
The Danville Sweet Adelines will present a "Moppin' Up Memories, a Tribute to Television" on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m., at the Danville Area Community College Bremer Theater. A dinner follows the show. Show admission (without dinner) is $15. The cost for the show and dinner is $40. Call 217-474-0473 for tickets.
Compost on sale
The City of Danville Public Works yard waste facility has compost on sale for $10 per cubic yard. If you are interested in purchasing, please call the Public Works facility at 217-431-2288 or stop by the office at 1155 East Voorhees St. Delivery of compost is available within five miles of the city limits for a $30 fee per load. A full load of compost for delivery is up to six cubic yards.
VFW to celebrate first anniversary
The Fountain County Old Guard VFW Post 2395 will celebrate its first year in its new facility located at 1212 Liberty St., Covington, on Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning 7:30 p.m. The evening will include a band — Shot Guns and Shot Glasses, a beer garden, and 50/50 drawing. The public is invited to bring a lawn chair and come and celebrate.
The post was totally destroyed by fire in August 2021 and reopened Sept. 21, 2023.
VFW Auxiliary to have Fish Fry
The Covington VFW Auxiliary Post 2395 will have a Fish Fry on Friday, Sept. 20, from 5-7:30 p.m. (EST), at the Post, 1212 Liberty Street, Covington.
The menu includes fish, fries, baked beans, slaw and tea or lemonade. The cost is $15 adults, $10 veterans, $5 children 8 and under.
Hoopeston Library offers free holiday craft event
Join the Hoopeston Public Library on Monday, Sept. 23, to make a Lampshade Ghost. This event is for adults and is free. Space is limited. To register for the event, stop by the library, 110 North Fourth St., Hoopeston, or call 217-283-6711.
