Coolio's Cause of Death Revealed 6 Months After Passing
The 'Gangsta's Paradise' rapper suddenly passed away in Sept. 2022.
Coolio's cause of death has officially been determined.
Following the news of his passing in Sept. 2022, the son of the "Gangsta's Paradise" rapper, Artis Ivey III, said that he believed his 59-year-old father's cause of death was related to natural causes, like that of a heart attack.
But now, after his cause of death was investigated even further, Coolio's family finally received some additional answers and clarity from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroners office.
The new statement revealed that Coolio's cause of death was due to an accidental overdose of fentanyl, according to family spokesperson, Jarel (Jarez) Posey. The musician also had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system at the time of his death.
Posey's statement also confirmed that investigators determined Coolio's severe asthma and long-term cigarette use also played a factor in his sudden death, per TMZ.
Along with Artis, Coolio is survived by his seven kids, Brandi, Jackie, Melan, Christopher, Darius, and Artisha. The family spokesperson told reporters that his children will "remember their dad for the great man he was, and the public should know how much they loved him, and how he conquered the world both on the stage and when he wasn't performing."
According to the outlet, Coolio's family has plans to honor the rapper through upcoming documentaries and films that continue the legacy he left behind with his music. Information regarding such works was not immediately available.
