Copenhagen Street Style: Dark and Moody Denim
The street style at Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) last month skewed darker and heavier compared to the cotton-candy colors and twee prints the event typically draws. However, the serious looks underscore fashion’s shifting mood—especially in denim.
Attendees opted for wide fits, dark washes and utilitarian details, echoing the collections presented on the CPHFW runway.

Cargo jeans continued to be a cool-girl staple, along with carpenter jeans. The jeans were styled with trendy soccer jerseys, slogan tees and leather jackets. Others played with proportions, pairing wide-leg jeans with oversized knits, coats, bags and even shoes adorned with large bows. Denim blazers were also worn in oversized silhouettes.
Denim maxi skirts styled with leather bombers and sporty zip-up jackets played into the thrifted look. The trendy skirts were also paired with coordinating jean jackets. Trucker jackets, in general, were cropped, oversized, coated and tailored for more exaggerated fits and nipped-in waists.
Long denim shorts made an appearance, styled with everything from blazers and cowboy boots, to sweatshirts and bolero jean jackets.
Black and dark indigo jeans featured minimal distressing and vintage effects. Coatings—be it oily and waxy or metallic and colorful—introduced a Y2K element to denim.
