Corbin Bleu and Sasha Clements’ Unplugged Honeymoon Included Two “Incredible” Destinations
This was no high school honeymoon. Actors Corbin Bleu and Sasha Clements waited a year to enjoy their honeymoon after marrying in July 2016, so when the time finally arrived, the couple certainly reveled in the getaway with one objective in mind: to relax. “First of all, it was a very delayed honeymoon,” Bleu tells The Knot in an exclusive interview. “We just celebrated our one-year anniversary, and had a delay for an entire year, but it ended up being so worth it.”
The actor-producer—first catapulted into the millennial spotlight after starring in Disney’s 2006 sleeper hit High School Musical—surprisingly met the actress in, of all places, the coffee aisle of a Toronto grocery store. After a three-year relationship, Bleu proposed in 2014 at Cinderella’s Castle in Disney World. The couple exchanged vows before 160 guests last July at the Hummingbird Nest in Santa Susana, California.
“Marriage really is fun,” Clements says. “People always say getting through the first year is the hardest, and in some aspects, you’re making changes and it can be—but our relationship actually ended up changing for the better.”

Her husband adds, “With any relationship, communication is number one. For us, we need to communicate about everything, and that’s obviously a partnership.”
While some newlyweds opt for adventurous honeymoons, Bleu and Clements both agreed to put the phones away in their paradise of choice, the Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica. “We stayed in the new, over-the-water huts in Montego Bay, and it’s stunning,” the actor says. “They have a hammock that’s built in and there’s this back deck overlooking the ocean… All of the overwater suites come with butlers. They give you a phone and you’re able to turn your phones off. You use that phone and dial the one number on it for the food you want for the day. You want to go snorkeling? They’ll give you a ring.”

His wife adds, “It was a great start to get into vacation mode. We were so tired after the craziness.”
Clements and Bleu made mega strides towards getting into the unplugged mentality, and they can now look back with tips for other couples about to embark on their respective trips. “Make a checklist before you go. That was one thing as we were packing and were putting everything together,” Bleu says. “Sasha almost forgot her Kindle, and all she wanted to do was sit on the beach and read. Make sure you bring everything you wanted to bring.”
Then, ditch the phones once you’re there. “Unplugging is so important. We decided to not look at our phones, and it was awesome,” Clements chimes in. “We read so much. Spent so much time with each other.” She pauses, “We’re on our phones so much than we realize each day, so unplugging was the best decision we made.”

Finally, relaxation doesn’t necessary mean being sedentary the entire time. “I found this to be awesome, but work out!” Bleu suggests. “I know it’s still vacation, but we would wake up early and go to the gym. And then, we didn’t feel guilty about the rest.” Some of the activities included practicing yoga, interval training, and running on the treadmill. Of course, they also spent quality time at the spa.

“Have adventures and downtime as well,” Clements says. After some much-needed downtime, the couple jetted off to Costa Rica for a small dose of adventure. It was there that Bleu had arranged a mega anniversary surprise for his wife.
“One of my bucket list things was to see sea turtles. He actually ended up extending our trip without me knowing,” Clements says. “I felt we were going to one resort and we wound up at some different place and we ended up extending our trip. He surprised me. We stayed a a turtle lodge. We went up the beach and we saw mama green turtles laying their eggs and making their way back to the beach. It was so magical. It was so quiet and these turtles haven’t been back for 25 years. It was just awesome. So shout out to him.”
