Cosmetics company slammed for racist nail polish name

An Italian cosmetics company has been called out for its “disgusting” choice of name for a nail polish color.

In a true “What were they thinking?” moment, Wycon Cosmetics has named its black gel nail polish “Thick as a N***a.” Italian beauty vlogger Loretta Grace was one of the first to call out the company, with others quickly flooding Instagram and Twitter to voice their outrage.

“I am appalled and disgusted. Awful!!!!!!” one person wrote on Instagram.

“What the actual f**? Do you understand how racist this is?” another added.

The hashtag #notonmynails has also started being shared on Twitter.

Wycon has not issued an official apology but wrote an explanation in the comments section under one of its Instagram photos.

The caption read: “We’re sorry that this post has triggered these types of reactions: every colour from our Gel On collection is inspired, with a cheerful attitude and a pinch of naivety, by famous song titles, many of which derive from the landscape of hip hop.”

The brand added, “The reference here is Thick N****s by DBangz. Wycon is the brand for everybody #nobodyexcluded is our motto and we didn’t mean to offend anybody!”

Wycon has since removed all of its shade names for its Gel On polishes from its website, replacing them instead with color numbers.

It comes a week after H&M was blasted for dressing a black child model in a hoodie printed with the words “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle.”
