It seems like it was eons ago that we were all shuttered indoors, endlessly scrolling on social media, trying out the latest viral dance trends, making whipped coffee and—for most of us—nurturing our darling baby sourdough starters. While it may seem like a distant memory turned fever dream, the pandemic shifted our collective consciousness in a way we’re still seeing the effects of today.

In some ways, the much-needed break from the rough and tumble, get-up-and-go pace of the world gave us a chance to reconnect with our passions and find ways to make the most out of a situation we couldn’t see our way out of. To some degree, we emerged from the cocoon of isolation with a newfound sense of gratitude for things we didn’t even realize we took for granted. Time spent with family members, jam-packed concert venues, Costco’s combo pizza—you know, the essentials.

While a lot of things changed (some for the better), things like the dreaded removal of Costco’s famous onion grinder, caused us to question what we did to end up on this timeline. Fortunately, it appears that the timeline has officially started shifting back in the right direction, and our beloved onion grinders might be making a return to Costco food courts soon enough.

According to u/defendors86 of the Costco-focused Reddit thread, the famed contraption showed up at their local warehouse in Riverton, Utah, replacing the individually portioned onion cups that have taken its place for the last few years. The enthusiastic user shared a photo of the onion grinder and summed it up simply with a screen grabk of Stoick the Vast from How to Train Your Dragon 2 saying, “You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you.” Our sentiments exactly.

The beauty of the device is its ability to dispense “all the onions that you can handle or that it can hold” without having to rely on the tiny plastic onion cups that, according to one shopper, only have “like 10 pieces of onion in each cup.” News of the onion grinder’s return naturally revived hope amongst fans that deli mustard, polish dogs and combo pizza would make their reemergence in the not-so-distant future, but we’ll take what we can get in the meantime.

Sure, we may not have returned to the pre-pandemic era when Walmart was open 24/7, no one thought twice about blowing out the candles on birthday cake, and movie theaters were packed beyond belief, but at least there’s hope on the horizon.
