The Costco Pantry Staple That Has 'Outlasted Some Marriages'
It's not news that people are passionate about Costco. The big box bulk behemoth inspires loyalty in its shoppers, particularly when it comes to their go-to products. Things like s'mores cookies, strawberries and cream cake, and Reese's animal crackers might be fun quick hits, but some Costco buys are forever.

It all started last week when a user, u/hellabadonna, posted a photo of an empty Kirkland Stretch-Lite Plastic Food Wrap roll. "Thank you for your service" is the post's subject line in the r/Costco subreddit.

Why Do People Love Costco Plastic Wrap?
For the unfamiliar, the Kirkland Stretch-Lite Plastic Food Wrap is a fan favorite because it holds on tight to food, trays and plates, creating a sturdy seal around precious things like your Thanksgiving leftovers. It's also BPA- and phthalate-free and Costco labels is as microwave-safe, though you should make sure the wrap isn't touching your food when you nuke it.
True to form for Costco, the foot-long boxes also have a TON of plastic wrap. How much? The Redditor's box had 750 square feet of plastic wrap, but you can get 3,000-square-foot rolls at Costco. The prices can vary by store, but the 3,000-square-foot box goes for around $20.
Zoom in, and you'll see a date that could be either June 01, 1974 or June 01, '14 (there was some debate in the comments). Costco was founded in 1983, so it's likely from 2014. But that's still nine years and 750 square feet of true love and well-kept leftovers to salute.
Others were quick to help the original poster (OP) pay respects to their trusty plastic wrap.
"So it does end!" said one awestruck Redditor.
"Playing Taps for you," wrote another.
"I’ve had a longer relationship with my box of Kirkland plastic wrap than I have with most humans in my life," admitted a fan.
"Purchased mine in 2001 during college," started another. "I still have more than half of the roll left. It’s never-ending, holy s—... It’s been with me on my first starter fixer-upper bachelor condo and now my first single-family home with my wife and a daughter coming soon. The cutter still works great too. I shall bequeath it to my daughter."
To which OP responded, "It'll outlast seven generations."
It also outlasts marriages.
"Bought a double pack years ago," said a Redditor. "When [the] spouse and I separated, we each took one roll (no joke), and I doubt either of us will ever need to buy more."
"I'm still working on a 3000 sq. ft. box of Kirkland food wrap that will last longer than I will live — I think," said another. "I have absolutely no idea how long I've had it."

One Thing To Save From an Empty Box of Costco Plastic Wrap
If you are still working on an "antique" box of Kirkland Stretch-Lite Plastic Food Wrap, pro tip: Save the cutter.
"Keep that cutter when you eventually get a new box," suggested one fan. "You have one of the truly vintage boxes — the cutters aren’t as good now."
"Don’t forget to save that slide cutter," agreed another. "[The] new ones aren’t as good as the old. I think I say this PSA every time I see one of these posts."
As for the now-empty roll, instead of recycling it, consider using it to tease some of your favorite family members.
"This is what you hit annoying siblings with as a kid," wrote one.
"If you have pets, it is now your obligation to torture them with that tube for the day," said another.
Hey, now. Be nice to the furry friends. The humans? Have at it.
