Costco Is Recalling One of Its Most Popular Soups — Here's Why

If you're already in the mindset of cooler weather and are hankering for delicious soup fresh from the aisles of Costco, you may want to steer clear of one particular option. On September 9, the warehouse issued a recall on its popular Kirkland Signature Chicken Tortilla Soup.

According to the notice, Kettle Cuisine — one of the warehouse's food manufacturers — recalled the soup due to the presence of gluten. For those unfamiliar, the Kirkland Signature Chicken Tortilla Soups is labeled as gluten-free and was sent to stores in both the Northwest and the Bay Area. The product in question bears a lot number of 1494066 as well as a Use By date of 11/23/23 and was produced between July 28 and early September.

While the presence of gluten may not seem like a big deal to many, for those who have an intolerance or sensitivity to the protein, consumption of products that include it could cause health issues. As such, those who have recently picked up the affected soup are encouraged to either discard of it or return it to their local Costco warehouse for a full refund.

Costco's recall of the fan-favorite soup comes after a number of recalls from other retailers and brands such as Shop & Shop — which recently recalled more than 29,000 cases of perishable foods — Hillshire Farms and Banquet Chicken Strips.
