Costco's Back-to-Back Recalls Aren't Great for Soup Lovers
Shoppers who frequent Costco for groceries are advised to check their food products, as the big-box retailer is recalling a specific type of food item for the second time in just a four-week timespan.
The manufacturer of Culinary Treasures Organic Chicken Bone Broth has issued another voluntarily recall of the item due to potential "non-pathogenic microbial contamination," according to a notice sent out to Costco club members on Sept. 22.
The communication states that the possible contamination may cause "product bloating" and shorten its shelf-life, which could cause it to go bad earlier than expected. Affected items would have been purchased between Sept. 8, 2022, through Sept. 22, 2023, and display a best before date of "2/23/2024" on its packaging.
Further, the broth was sold in select warehouses in the Southeast, with only packages with the lot code 98E08242 subject to the recall.
No reported illnesses in connection with the product have been reported as of yet, however, the notice urged Costco members to still refrain from using it and either discard it or return it to their local warehouse for a full refund.
Earlier this month, a second brand of chicken broth sold at Costco was also recalled. Seems like it's maybe not the best time to plan to make your favorite fall soup recipe just yet, huh?
On Sept. 9, food manufacturer Kettle Cuisine alerted store members that it was recalling the Kirkland Signature Chicken Tortilla Soup after detecting gluten in the product, which had been labeled "gluten-free." The undeclared presence of the ingredient could put people with allergies or sensitivities at risk, so customers should make sure to review the full recall notice to check if they have one of the affected items.
