Costco's Highly Anticipated Holiday Cookie Tray Is Finally Back—And It's Cheaper Than Last Year
Costco's Holiday Cookie Tray is Back
The holidays are officially back at Costco, and that means an avalanche of returning treats and goodies shoppers can’t wait to get their hands on. From peppermint bark to mini gingerbread cakes, the retailer has inundated us with plenty of holly jolly delicacies to last us all season long.
Although the Keebler Elves don’t work at the North Pole (as far as we know), the holiday season—more than anything else—is a celebration of the cookie. Delectably sweet, buttery morsels of dough studded with semi-sweet chocolate chips covered in powdered sugar...the variations are truly endless. Perhaps for their shareability or simply just the fact that they’re delicious, cookies are truly the season’s diamond, and the warehouse-style grocer has made sure to provide us with more than just a few options.

What can only be described as an homage to the sweet of the hour, Costco just restocked its famed Holiday Cookie Tray. Aside from the to-be-expected fanfare, a few fans have noticed that this year’s offering is smaller than previous years, and it almost feels like the Grinch stole Christmas.

For context, the platter in question has gone through many variations and changes. In 2021, the tray held 42 cookies for $9.99. And just last year, in 2022, shoppers saw the price jump to $13.99 with the amount of sweets inside rising to 44. Now, in 2023, the spread of treats is back to $9.99, but you’ll only get 30 cookies and two fewer flavors than years past. This year’s flavors include powdered brownie walnut, candy chocolate chip and toffee sandies.
Fans mourned the loss of the lemon shortbread and coconut almond chocolatefFlavors in comments under @costcobuys Instagram post, and the response to yet another beloved holiday treat affected by shrinkflation hit hard.
“So sad they got rid of the two other flavors,” groaned one person. “Inflation hits our prized Costco holiday cookies too!” shouted another.
While the general sentiment was “sorrows, sorrows, prayers,” a few users pondered the idea of filing a complaint. “What a shame. Is there any way to file a complaint? Like if we all tell them, maybe they would change it back?”
As die-hard cookie fans, we’ll gladly support the cause—but not before we grab a few trays for our next holiday party. If you’re down to resist the establishment and would rather snag a treat for free, Subway’s foot-long cookie is making its return and you can find out how to get one here.
