You Could Live in a Real-Life Castle from 'Game of Thrones'
Riverrun is up for sale.
Gosford Castle, the castle that HBO used as the exterior of Riverrun for the third season of Game of Thrones, could be the place you call home. You might recognize its stones from the scene where Robb Stark executes Rickard Karstark, which was a dumb thing to do and played into the massacre of the Starks at the Red Wedding. (Don't worry, that bloodbath was filmed elsewhere.)
In real life, Gosford Castle was built in the mid-1800s for the Earl of Gosford in Northern Ireland. During World War II, it was used to house troops and POWs. In 1986, the lands around it became the Gosford Forest Park, Ireland's first conservation forest. The castle was used by the military again during the Troubles, and then remodeled as a hotel.
Now, the castle has been divvied up into separate wings, one of which is for sale now. The wing is converted into six apartments, each at least 3,500 square feet with multiple bedrooms. In total, that's more than 15 bedrooms with 10 bathrooms; move your entire family in, or keep it all to yourself.
If living in a castle in Northern Ireland surrounded by 590 acres of of forest preserve interests you, the starting price is listed as 500,000 pounds, or $656,254. That's a pretty sweet deal-even if there are old-timey castle ghosts haunting every room.
