Country Music Star Chris Stapleton Creates Special Cruiser Jacket With Filson

Filson is extending its relationship with country singer/songwriter Chris Stapleton.

For the second consecutive year, the two have teamed up to create a special jacket, the Chris Stapleton Signature Mackinaw Cruiser.

The piece is part of the 110th anniversary of the Cruiser and this version has been created from a blue plaid deadstock fabric sourced from Filson’s archives. The fabric has been dormant since the 1980s.

The Cruiser made its appearance during the 1897 Alaska Gold Rush and was patented in 1914 by C.C. Filson, the brand’s founder. The jacket has remained virtually unchanged since its debut with its front buttons and nine pockets, including one full-width rear pocket used by surveyors for map storage.

Stapleton, who has worn Filson since he was a child, said: “Being a longtime admirer of Filson, I saw an opportunity to collaborate and bring back an old pattern I loved. It’s rare people build things that last a real lifetime — I love Filson stuff because it’s made to live longer than I will.”

Last year the entertainer and Filson teamed on the Traveller Collection, a nod to his debut album of that name released in 2015. This year, in addition to the Cruiser, there will be a limited-edition Outlaw State of Kind T-shirt that will retail for $50, with all the proceeds benefitting the charitable fund founded by Stapleton and his wife, Morgane.

“Chris Stapleton’s personal connection to Filson and his genuine appreciation for our heritage make this creative partnership especially meaningful,” said Alex Carleton, chief creative officer of Filson. “Reuniting together to create his Signature Mackinaw Cruiser #2 is a celebration of both Filson’s rich history and Chris’ commitment to quality and authenticity.”

The Cruiser will retail for $595 and will be available for sale beginning Sept. 26 on the Filson website, its stores and at select wholesale accounts.

Filson was created in Seattle in 1897 to outfit prospectors headed for the Yukon. Stapleton is a 10-time Grammy, 16-time Country Music Association and 19-time Academy of Country Music award winner.
