Newlyweds, guests arrested after allegedly breaking into building hours after wedding ceremony

Just hours after tying the knot, a newly married couple and four of their wedding guests were arrested after they allegedly broke into a former elementary school.

Abigail Carlson, 21, and Zachary Fuit, 26 were married at Bear Lake Campground in Milton, Florida on Sunday. The newlyweds and their friends Stephen Pepik, 24; Victor Peres, 21; Zachary Barr, 21; and Colton Patterson, 20, were charged with criminal mischief, theft and burglary.

The Pensacola News Journal reported that a caretaker on the property of the former elementary school contacted police on Sunday night after the group pulled off wooden boards that once covered a broken window and climbed into the building.

A statement shared with Yahoo Lifestyle by Sgt. Rich Aloy of Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office indicated the group “ran to their cars” after they saw the caretaker, Thomas Reber, but he was able to write down the license plate numbers on one of the vehicles.

Pensacola News Journal reported that Carlson told deputies she and her friends “found the school, which she and the others believed to be abandoned, parked and looked around the building.”

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that “items were discovered in one of the vehicles, placing them at the scene.”

All six were booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail, and have since been released. Fuit and the four men involved are U.S. Marines, the Pensacola News Journal reported.

This wasn’t the only recent case of a newlywed being arrested on their wedding day.

In February, a groom was arrested at his own wedding in Willingboro, N.J. after he allegedly groped an underage waitress. In March, a Florida groom spent his wedding night in jail after he got into a fight with a bystander.
