Couple Defends Spending Over $1000 on Fyre Festival II Tickets

Even a stint in prison couldn't stop Fyre Festival creator Billy McFarland from bringing the infamous music festival back.

On Aug. 21, McFarland made a video announcing that tickets for Fyre Festival II were on sale. Surprisingly, the first round of 100 tickets sold within hours of going live, retailing each for $500.

You're likely wondering who would spend so much money on an event run by a convicted scammer. Well, CBS News got that answer when a couple came forward to share the reason why they decided to spend nearly $550 each on tickets.

Victoria Medvedenko told the publication that she and her boyfriend, Cooper Sinkiawic, took the plunge out of curiosity. "If anything, it'll just be a really cool vacation," she said.

However, Sinkiawic acknowledged that with no performers locked down to play the festival yet, there's a big risk of not knowing if the pricey ticket will be worth it.

"Our main concern is that we don't know if big headliners will be willing to, you know, take that risk to be in something so controversial," noted Sinkiawic. He added, "We're gonna stay optimistic, but we're gonna expect that there may be some cheese sandwiches."

After the pre-sale sold out, McFarland shared a statement on social media, updating on the plan for the event's sequel.

"The first FYRE Festival II drop has sold out. Since 2016 FYRE has been the most talked about festival in the world. We now saw this convert to one of the highest priced GA pre-sales in the industry," he opened his message.

His statement continued, "FYRE is about people from around the world coming together to pull off the impossible. This time we have incredible support. I'll be doing what I love while working with the best logistical and infrastructure partners. In addition, all ticket sale revenue will be held in escrow until the final date is announced."

The 31-year-old added that he and the rest of the team look forward to "surprising the world alongside our partners as we build FYRE and FYRE Festival II into the island adventure of a lifetime."
