This couple doesn't have a baby or pet yet so they posed with McDonald's for their holiday card instead
What’s more American than the United States Capitol combined with McDonald’s and a heavy dose of American flag-printed clothing? To one Washington, D.C.-based couple, nothing.
When planning their holiday card, Matt Violette and Sarah Keating decided to go with an “American Dream” theme. And it’s safe to say they succeeded.
“A few months back, I promised Sarah and Matty a Christmas card photoshoot,” photographer Emily White explains to Yahoo Lifestyle. “Little did I know the vision that Sarah had in mind. She is quite the creative and definitely likes to take things to the next level.”
For Keating, she knew right off the bat that she wanted something fun and lighthearted for her holiday card. “Last year, we sent a our holiday card with a picture of us wearing matching sweaters and bathing suits saying, ‘Thanks for all the 2016 Instagram likes. May they continue in 2017. Love Two of Your Favorite Americans,’” Keating tells Yahoo.
After a great response, Keating and Violette are back for the 2017 holiday season — and have taken things up a notch.
What does that entail, exactly? The series of photographs taken by White feature the couple wearing American flag shorts and denim tops while eating french fries, Big Macs, and McNuggets in front of the U.S. Capitol building. Violette threw on an American Flag hat for good measure. Some highlights include them eating from both ends of the same burger and them feeding each other french fries with the Capitol in the background.
“We wanted to incorporate Chubbies shorts and McDonald’s the way that some people would incorporate their baby or their pet. We don’t have either… just a love for McDonald’s,” Keating explains.
“We did a lot of the typical poses that couples do in engagement shoots (I am a professional photographer and have done quite a bit of these),” White adds of the couple, who actually aren’t engaged yet.
So…what is this American Dream they’re attempting to depict, exactly? “I think our American Dream is living and celebrating every moment to its fullest,” Violette says. “Sarah and I love making people smile and laugh. Anything we can do to brighten the day of someone else makes life more enjoyable…oh and we clearly love McDonald’s. The point of the shoot was to just have a blast showing off some of our favorite things.”
His blogger girlfriend agrees. “There was no message, just lighthearted holiday cheer. Our American dream includes each other… and McDonald’s.”
Well, if they’ve achieved anything, it’s sharing their love of fast food with the world. “Matt and Sarah even explained their vision to the McDonald’s staff in Tenleytown who promised they would post the final product on their employee board. If nothing else came from it, that in itself = success.”
