Couple's Sweet Attempt to Release Pigeon They Rescued Doesn't Go As Planned

Sometimes, despite the best intentions, things just don't go to plan. That's life! Whether it's something small like catching the wrong bus, or a full-on life event like a breakup, there's just no way to predict when something will or won't go the way you're expecting. So all you can do is roll with it!

And that's exactly what a couple of bird rescuers did when they attempted to release the pigeon they had been rehabilitating. After the bird got the green light from the veterinarian, Kayla and her partner felt ready to let her fly away--but the confident pigeon had other plans! Fortunately, Kayla caught the hilarious moment in a November 5 TikTok video.

LMAO! So much for releasing the pigeon, then, I guess! She darted straight back inside without as much as a second thought, and there's no doubt in anyone's mind where this bird belongs now. Even Kayla admitted that the bird's veterinarian warned her she may not leave!

Apparently, this is a more common occurrence than I realized. Several commenters shared similar stories! @Maggierose33 wrote, "Good luck! My cousins have had an accidental pet pigeon for 10 years." That's hilarious! I'd love to know how their first encounter with the pigeon happened, but I'd be willing to bet it's a similar story to Kayla's. After giving a rescue bird shelter, warmth, food, and love--why would it go back?

As many other commenters mentioned, pigeons actually used to be pets and domestic animals. They even had jobs, like carrying letters back and forth from set destinations, but were essentially sent to the outdoors once they were no longer needed. There are still some domestic pet pigeons in the world--and many of them are colorful kinds of beautiful pigeons, too--you just won't meet them on the street like their wild cousins!

Fortunately, Kayla confirmed in a comment that the indoor bird is now a permanent member of their family. She gets along well with the dogs, enjoys getting cozy on the couch, and already fits right in!
