Craving ice cream or another chilly treat? Yelp says try these five Augusta-area hot spots
There's at least one thing most Augusta-area residents can agree on about this summer: It has been an absolute scorcher. The National Weather Service has issued multiple heat advisories over the last few weeks. This week's forecast predicts temperatures higher than 90 degrees every day. It's a perfect time for an ice-cold sweet.
Need another excuse to treat yourself? Sunday, July 21 is National Ice Cream Day. There are several local spots for enjoying a scoop of ice cream, frozen custard, frozen yogurt, and other chilly desserts. Here's a look at five of the best in the Augusta area, according to Yelp:
Summerville Scoops
2803 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta
Summerville Scoops was opened in 2016 by Heather Chancey, a co-owner of Scoops' next door neighbor, Village Deli. The ice cream here is all made in house and it stands out by having some of the most bizarre flavors like salted caramel, jalapeno coconut, maple bacon, and goat cheese and peach. They also offer Italian ice.
Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "I wish I had a picture to show my happiness every time I visit this gem but the proof always ends up in my belly. I love this place, the portions are nice, and it's cost effective. Such nice artisan ice cream and the sweet souls that work there make it so much more than your typical ice cream parlor."

Orange Moon Delights
2907 Washington Rd., Augusta
There are several sweet spots along Washington Road, but Orange Moon Delights is one of the sweetest. Among their delights are gelato, frozen yogurt, ice cream, and yogurt shakes. Some of their flavors include maple roasted butter pecan, roasted banana dulce de leche, and Madagascar bourbon vanilla.
Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "This lemon lavishness was something I never thought I needed. The employee suggested I mix gelato with sorbet and boy it was the best thing that hit my tongue all day. Hats off to the guy behind the counter for his knowledge, humor, and warmth. This clean establishment will definitely get a return visit."
Whipped Creamery
353 Furys Ferry Rd., Martinez and 514 Oxbow Dr., Grovetown
Whether it's from one of the storefronts or its food truck, Whipped Creamery is a favorite for those in the Augusta area with a sweet tooth. They offer 24 hand-dipped variations at any time, rotating between 55 different flavors. They can be enjoyed in various cones, as a brownie sundae, and sandwiched between cookies.
Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "Tried a variety of desserts from a cheesecake brownie which was very delicious to a banana pudding cinnamon roll to a cinna-sundae which was a cinnamon roll topped with vanilla bean ice cream, strawberries, and nuts. They were all out of this world."
Pink Dipper
501 Georgia Ave., North Augusta
Established in 1972, the Pink Dipper still boasts its vintage charm as a neighborhood ice cream parlor. There are more than 40 flavors available, some of them include cotton candy, sea salt caramel, and "Superman." They are available by the scoop as well as by the quart. There are also banana splits, ice cream floats, and spun milkshakes.
Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "Plenty of flavors to choose from and the kids that work there are super sweet. I got the Khalua Coffee and it has espresso beans in coffee flavored ice cream with toffee pieces. Delicious is an understatement! Make sure you try them out whenever you want to visit North Augusta!"

Café Dulce
3118 Washington Rd., Augusta
Café Dulce is a more modern spot, but it's already become a popular one since opening in 2022. It serves as a custard and coffee carrier, offering treats that incorporate Whit's Frozen Custard and Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee. Customers can enjoy either or both in their trendy indoor and outdoor dining areas on the top floor.
Here's what one Yelp reviewer said: "We ordered New York style cheesecake, blueberry waffle custard, and vanilla custard with caramel and Oreos. All were delicious and fresh. Custard is creamy and light, yet fulfilling and sweet. Service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was quiet and very chill. Enjoyed the rooftop area."
