You Can Create a Custom Playlist for Your Pet on Spotify to Keep Them Company While You're at Work
From Furbos to Nest Cams, there are plenty of ways to keep an eye on your pet when its home alone. Now, there's a new way to keep your furry friend entertained, too.
Spotify launched new "pet playlists" this week, which can keep your cats dancing or your dogs humming from the hours of 9 to 5. If you already play music for your pet, you're not alone. Seventy-one percent of pet owners from five countries who responded to an online music survey from the streaming platform revealed that they play music for their animals.
To create a playlist, begin by picking your type of pet. Spotify currently offers playlists for five different animals: dogs, cats, birds, hamsters and iguanas.
Goldfish, tarantulas and snakes aren't included, because they don't have ears. While Spotify unfortunately can't accommodate all pets at this time, you may soon discover that your horse really digs iguana music.
I picked a dog, because I have Ethel, a cute Cairn Terrier-Miniature Schnauzer mix, who I adopted from Alabama. Next, Spotify asks you to identify some your pet's personality traits. Ethel is much more relaxed than energetic, more friendly than shy, and more curious than apathetic.
Spotify's algorithm then serves up a playlist based not only on your pet's attributes but also your own listening habits. Now you two (or the whole entire crew) can have a jam session together, even if from afar.
