The Creator of Pixar’s ‘Bao’ Just Shared Her Mom’s Recipe for the Dumpling Dish

Aside from being adorable, the Disney Pixar short film Bao made us very hungry. So when the creator of the heartwarming short, Domee Shi, shared her mom’s own recipe for the traditional Chinese dish, we had to pull out a fresh recipe card.

Via drawn out step-by-step instructions, Shi captured the comedy of Facetiming with parents and following family recipes perfectly. The cute little Bao drawings didn’t hurt either.

So, what do you need to make the Shi family’s take on Bao? About two-and-a-half hours, some flour, yeast, pork, cabbage, eggs, veggies and seasoning. Oh, and the confidence to take some creative license since it’s an “approximate” version of the Shi recipe.

BRB. We’re off to go make our own doughy surrogate child bao.
