This Credenza Literally Peels Open, And It's So Mesmerizing
Beautiful furniture and decor isn't hard to come by-you already know the options are pretty much endless. But every once in a while you stumble upon a piece so stunning and captivating that you can't help but fall a little bit in love with it. In this case, Portland-based furniture and lighting designer Leah K.S. Amick is the one capturing hearts (or at least mine!) with a credenza she's aptly named "Peel."
Cabinet doors that slide and swing have nothing on the Peel credenza, which quite literally peels open. Rather than open the doors by a typical knob, you simply pull the beveled doors back diagonally by the tabs at the top. The doors, which have an added pop of color inside thanks to fabric backing, wrap away as they open to add to the illusion.
"Peel’s inspiration came from a consideration of surfaces, their manipulation, and the expectations placed on an object," Amick tells House Beautiful. "How can a surface create a moment of ooh and ah-ha? How would it feel to bend and break? How can this experience become a functional object?"
Amick is offering several different colorways for the Peel credenza, with four different wood options (maple plywood, walnut plywood, solid maple, and solid walnut) along with four colors for the inside of the doors-including the teal you see pictured here, as well as wine, silver, and tan.
If you absolutely must have this stunner, you can order one through Amick's website by filling out this inquiry form. Pricing for the Peel credenza starts at $3,100.
