Life seems to be imitating art for Shemar Moore.
In early January, the Criminal Minds actor stunned his followers when he posted about life changing news on Instagram. In the surprise video, Shemar announced that he and his girlfriend, Jesiree Dizon, were expecting their first child together. What's more, the clip also showed the couple gathering alongside loved ones to watch a helicopter fly over with pink smoke, revealing that a girl would be arriving on February 8.
"Mama’s smiling from Heaven ???," he wrote about the news on January 9. "Miracles happen … Here comes the BEST part of my life ????."
When Criminal Minds fans learned the S.W.A.T. star was only weeks away from becoming a father, they immediately began congratulating him. But with Shemar's character Derek Morgan (who became a dad during season 11) being famous for uttering a particular phrase on the drama, they naturally had to quote him in the comments as well.
"Oh my God!!! You’re having an official 'Baby Girl.' I’m so happy for you!!!! Congratulations! ????????," one person wrote on Instagram. "You better call her Baby Girl ??," another added. "Baby girl with have a whole new meaning congratulations to you both," a different follower said.
While the news of Shemar's impending fatherhood is certainly a celebration, there is also a significance to the timing of his daughter's birth. As he discussed with daytime TV show host Jennifer Hudson during a segment on The Jennifer Hudson Show, his child's due date will coincide with the death of his mother, Marylin.
"I'm Shemar Moore, 52 ? years old. My mother is in heaven, right now it'll be the three-year anniversary on February 8," he said on the show. "And on February 8, I'm going to make one of her dreams come true because, in real life, Shemar Moore is about to be a daddy."
He continued: "I'm so excited. I'm sorry she can't be here. I was worried for a while that maybe 'that ship has sailed,' kind of thing [but] God had my back and things lined up."
