Cumberland Falls celebrates Kentucky State Parks' 100th Anniversary
Sep. 3—CUMBERLAND FALLS — Families and outdoor enthusiasts gathered Saturday at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Kentucky State Parks with a special centennial event.
The celebration offered a day packed with activities that showcased the park's natural beauty and provided plenty of fun for visitors of all ages.
The event was designed with families in mind, featuring a variety of activities that allowed children and adults alike to enjoy the great outdoors. The celebration included inflatables, tree climbing, face painting, and tie-dye stations that kept kids entertained throughout the event.
Attendees also had the chance to try their luck at a gem-mining experience and enjoy a bird exhibition featuring majestic creatures like owls and eagles.
One of the event's highlights was a surprise guest appearance by none other than "Bigfoot." Visitors were thrilled to catch a glimpse of the elusive creature, adding a touch of mystery and excitement to the celebration.
"It's a great opportunity for our patrons to rediscover what Cumberland Falls has to offer," said Maggy Monhollen, park manager at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. "We've been preserving and conserving public spaces for recreation and memories that'll last a lifetime."
Patrons of the Riverview Restaurant inside Dupont Lodge could also partake of a special Appalachian-inspired three course meal.
As a special treat, everyone enjoyed a piece of cake to mark the occasion, adding a sweet touch to the day's festivities.
