Curvy model praises 'Sports Illustrated' for having 'evolved with the times.' Says Victoria's Secret hasn't done the same.
Curvy model Robyn Lawley already announced her petition to boycott the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show as a result of the brand’s refusal to include more diverse body types on its star-studded runway. But, a brand that she is praising for curating a more inclusive line up is Sports Illustrated, which has included her in its swimsuit edition for the past four years.

Taking to Instagram to share a photo from one of those spreads on Thursday, the day the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show filmed, Lawley wrote, “Love how these guys evolved with the times!!! I’m sure I’ll find out through the grapevine if any curvier than their usual model is used for this years Victoria Secret show, I’m a little hopeful but not at all at the same time.”
Victoria’s Secret neglected to do so.
Now, Lawley is encouraging followers to continue to sign her petition against VS until the show airs on Dec. 2, in addition to refusing to watch it. Instead, she’s been publicizing her involvement in brands that are showcasing diversity and inclusivity in their campaigns and on their runways, like Sports Illustrated and Simply Be.

Using the hashtag #weareallangels, the model posted a photo from the online retailer’s fashion show on Tuesday morning, which featured models sizes 10 to 22 in lingerie and wings. Many of Lawley’s followers responded with praise, saying that they “feel seen,” and “this is real!”
Still, there are others who point out that there is much more that needs to be done to achieve the diversity and inclusivity that people are looking for. But this is certainly a start.
