The CW just greenlit a Riverdale musical spinoff show, and here's everything we know

A little more than a year after The CW lost The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to Netflix, the network is taking another stab at a Riverdale spinoff, this time trading magic for music. Yesterday, January 23rd, the network announced it’s ordering four new pilots, including a musical centered around Archie Comics character Katy Keene. The show is set to follow Katy and her pals as they search for stardom in New York City. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the spinoff chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.”

Riverdale and Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa—who also serves as the Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics —confirmed the news on Twitter.

Katy Keene isn’t the only pilot ordered with a sister show already on The CW. The network has also ordered a Jane the Virgin spinoff tentatively called Jane the Novela, a show based on Nancy Drew, and a vampire teen series based on the 1980s cult classic The Lost Boys.

Yes to all of this! These four may just be pilots for now, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that they become full-fledged series next fall.
