CYN Premiered Her "Believer" Music Video
CYN's latest single, "Believer," may be an infectious, sugary bop, but it was actually inspired by harsh emotions from ending a relationship. "After you go through a rough breakup, you have a hard time believing in love again and that’s why I wrote the song," the singer, née Cynthia Nabozny, told BAZAAR.com.
The Michigan native wrote the track in November and released it at the end of April. Now, she finally has the music video to go along with it. The visuals channel that gritty-meets-artsy, lo-fi aesthetic against the backdrop of Silverlake, Los Angeles. Following impressive single releases like "Only With You" and "Alright," this project serves as another promising look at the budding pop star, who's signed to Katy Perry's Unsub record label and recently opened for her on tour.
The video shows CYN getting glam for a date night, riding in a vintage car, eating dinner, and having a late-night swim with a love interest-but her partner is never shown onscreen. That was entirely intentional; in fact, CYN says leaving her date a mystery contributes to her message in the song.
"At one point, I felt I was going through my young adult life with my love, my partner, and when that was over, I looked around like, 'Was he ever really here at all?'" she said. "That's why the male character in the video is never revealed."
CYN credits her friends for directing (Kenny Laubbacher), styling her (Sydney Lopez), and doing her makeup (Alex French) for the project. Considering the end result, we never would've guessed they filmed in a time crunch. "Even though we were shooting until 4AM and I had a flight to New York at 7AM, doing this with my friends was the best part about this video for me," she adds.
