Cynthia Nixon backs Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City 'feud'
Cynthia Nixon has sided with Sarah Jessica Parker in her ongoing feud with Kim Cattrall.
Alongside Kristin Davis, the three actresses starred in hit TV show Sex And The City, but their onscreen friendships haven't translated into real life, with Cattrall criticising her co-stars in a series of recent outbursts.
It would seem, though, that there is no bad blood between Nixon and Parker, whose characters were the closest in the show. They were photographed together in New York yesterday, and Nixon wrote on social media that she missed her "old friend", and was glad they "ran into each other".
In October, Cattrall, who played Samantha, described the cast's working relationship as "toxic". She said that she wished Parker, who was the star of the show Carrie, "had been nicer" and that she considered her a "colleague" rather than a friend. Parker later professed herself to be "just heartbroken" over Cattrall's comments.
Cattrall's brother died on February 4, and the rift has widened between the old co-stars as they shared their sympathy on social media.
When Nixon (Miranda in the show) sent her condolences for "such awful news", Cattrall wrote: "Cynthia, hearing your voice meant so much to me. Thank you for reaching out. Love Kim #SexandtheCity."
Parker also reached out to Cattrall, saying: "Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx"
However, that message met with a very different reception. Cattrall shared an Instagram post in which she branded Parker "cruel" and accused her of "exploiting our tragedy".
My Mom asked me today “When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?” Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.
Actor Jason Lewis, who played Cattrall's on-screen boyfriend in Sex and the City, has also sided with Parker, leaping to the actress's defence in an interview with US network KTLA. "Listen, I have to say that Sarah was always just so lovely and such a consummate professional," he said last week. "I think that people should remember their graciousness and the things that have been given to them."
