Cynthia Nixon reacts to election loss: 'I'm not discouraged. I'm inspired."
She may not be headed to Albany — or see her name on the ballot in the November election — but Cynthia Nixon told supporters that she is “not discouraged” after being defeated by incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo in Thursday’s Democratic primary race for governor of New York.
While the result tonight wasn’t what we had hoped for, I’m not discouraged. I’m inspired. I hope you are too. We have fundamentally changed the political landscape in this state.

The former Sex and the City star — who told Yahoo Lifestyle earlier in the day that she was “excited,” not nervous, about hitting the polls — gave a concession speech from a Brooklyn restaurant after gaining 34.4 percent of the votes, against Cuomo’s 65.6 percent.
Nixon also took to social media, stressing that her political bid was wasn’t “just a symbolic victory,” because it had pushed Cuomo to make “concrete commitments” on issues such as marijuana legalization, the environment, mass incarceration, and the subway.
As progressives and New Yorkers, we have to hold the governor accountable for the commitments he’s made over the last 6 months. But these are real victories. Some people have called this #TheCynthiaEffect. I call it what happens when we hold our leaders accountable.

The longtime activist didn’t reveal her post-election plans, but this message has supporters wondering if she’ll pursue politics again:
“We started something here in New York, and it doesn’t end today,” Nixon said. “This is just the beginning. And I know that together, we will win this fight.”

If she does, she’ll no doubt continue to have A-list support. “And if former SATC guest star Donald Trump can become president, why not Miranda for, say, mayor?

Congratulations Cynthia! You have forced Cuomo to do what he should have done years ago. You have increased the quality of New Yorkers lives, and this is just the beginning. You are a Force of Nature. You had my vote and will again no matter what you choose to pursue.🙏🏻 https://t.co/anjFcELjUc
