Dad faces backlash over ‘disrespectful’ treatment of 20-year-old son: ‘You’re entitled to privacy’

A 20-year-old who lives with his parents is wondering if they should respect his privacy.

He went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to share a recent incident that went down with his father. The son and his girlfriend each live with their respective parents because of their finances. But his parents don’t believe he is entitled to any privacy.

“My parents never pressured me to leave the household but their actions show otherwise,” the user wrote. “My girlfriend and I rarely spend time alone in a room because both houses are always full of people and I totally get it. The other day we were cuddling in my bed after a long and tiresome day and my father barges in suddenly and sees us kissing. After my girlfriend left, he made a big scene out of it, saying we shouldn’t be intimate when other people are in the house because anybody can see us if they enter the room. And I said that he shouldn’t barge into my bedroom without even knocking He replied by saying that it’s his house so he can do whatever he wants.”

Reddit users felt the 20-year-old was deserving of boundaries.

“It’s disrespectful not to acknowledge your requirement of privacy,” one user said.

“You’re entitled to privacy in your own room, it doesn’t matter who’s house it is,” another commented.

“Knocking is literally the most basic courtesy,” someone wrote.
