Dad hilariously impersonates kids’ ‘selective hearing’: ‘I know you can hear me’
This comedian made a video depicting kids’ selective hearing, and viewers can totally relate!
TikTokers Shaun and Nicole Johnson (@johnsonfiles) are a husband and wife comedy duo who have amassed a following of over 250K users for their funny content. One of their videos parodies the “selective hearing” of kids, and it’s hilariously relatable.

The clip begins with Shaun in character as a mom, wearing a blonde wig, orange cardigan, and sensible pocketbook, walking through the front door with bags of groceries.
“Kids, come help me with the groceries,” Shaun yells as the words “Kids only hear what they want to hear” appear on-screen. “Hellooo? Kids?” Shaun calls out again before rolling his eyes and walking away.
Then the clip cuts to a shot of Shaun in the kitchen. “Kids, come set the table,” Shaun hollers, swinging a dish towel over his shoulder.
“I know you can hear me…” he announces before the footage quickly cuts to Shaun dramatically pretending to fall on the floor.
“Ow oh! I really hurt myself. I fell down,” he yells while hitting the floor with his hands to emphasize the magnitude of the fall.

“Can anyone hear me and help me?” he asks. “Seriously? What if this was real? Unbelievable,” Shaun says, shaking his head before getting up from the floor.
In the next shot, Shaun takes a seat at the dining room table. “Ughh, time to take a load off,” he sighs, about to open a bag of chips.
A slow-motion close-up shot shows Shaun opening the bag of chips, causing the sound to echo throughout the house.
The clip then cuts to a shot of Shaun as the kid upstairs. The sound of the chips grabs his attention, and he looks up from his video game.
The video closes with mom Shaun enjoying the chips before kid Shaun jumps up from under the table to ask, “What is that? Can I have some?”
“Oh, THAT you heard?” mom Shaun quips.
The video’s relatability struck a chord with viewers.
“I remember coughing to cover up the sound of the Cola tab popping,” one parent recalled.
“Literally happened to me! My toddler son ran from across the house saying, ‘What’s that chip noise?’” chimed in another parent.
“Whenever I open a bag of something, I know I’ll have visitors popping in soon,” mentioned one TikToker.
