Dad poses triumphantly with daughter's doll he rescued from tornado rubble
A tornado swept a family’s house off its foundation — but that didn’t stop a father of two from turning back to scrounge through the rubble and retrieve his daughter’s beloved doll.
The damage caused by tornadoes in Harrison Township, MI, on Memorial Day was severe, but Timothy Walker was determined to make sure it didn’t dampen his kids’ spirits.
“The two kids have been through so much,” he told WHIO in an interview. “They were in the house with my wife the night of the storm and that doll became a symbol for me of just trying to do what I could to help them recover.”
Walker climbed through the damage, and made his way upstairs to search for the doll in what was left of his daughter’s room.
“I had to find my way through a lot of plaster where the roof had fallen in,” he recounted to WHIO.
In a Facebook post shared on Saturday, Walker confirmed that he was able to salvage the doll for his daughter, Storm, and a dream catcher for his son, Hendrix.
“Now I feel super, super happy, like really happy!” Storm told WHIO.
Walker continues to find strength in his kids and in a Facebook post that he shared on Wednesday, describing how his daughter was able to add a bit of light to a difficult time.
The family of 4 is currently living in a motel, and it is uncertain how long it will be until they’re able to secure a more permanent living situation.
Yahoo Lifestyle reached out to Timothy Walker for comment and will update this post when we hear back.
