New Dad Prince Harry Announced His Son's Birth Wearing a Very 'Dad' Sweater

From Esquire

There are two very important pieces of news you need to know right now. First, Meghan Markle has given birth to a son. Britain rejoices! And so does the father, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Which brings us to the second very important piece of news: Prince Harry, brand-new dad, wore an extremely "dad" sweater to announce the good news about the royal progeny.

Here's the thing about this kind of sweater: I usually hate it. The half-zip tends to make me think of a particularly sad accountant eating lunch alone in a Panera Bread while being very, very careful about spilling the soup of the day on his no-wrinkle chinos. This is not, I hope, the vibe most guys are going for when they're getting dressed. (Oh man, do I hope). But on Harry-especially in this context-it just plain works.

Let's break that down. First of, of course, you've got the fact that the sweet ginger Prince has just become the father of a baby boy. He told the BBC that he is "absolutely thrilled" and that Meghan and the baby are doing "incredibly well." He's happy! And it shows, which goes a long way toward dispelling any sad-sack vibes.

Plus-and it kind of pains me to say this, but one must admit when one is wrong-the sweater itself looks good. It's nicely fitted without being too clingy, and paired with a crisp white shirt, gray jeans, and desert boots, it feels relaxed, but pulled-together. Stylish, but not too. Yes, it's a dad sweater. But it's a cool young dad sweater worn by a subtly stylish royal who just had his first kid.

I have reevaluated my biases; I am now, in the correct context, pro half-zip. Thank you, Harry, for taking me on this journey. And congrats on the kid.
