A number of Dancing With the Stars fans are celebrating after contestant Sean Spicer was finally sent home from the ballroom competition show following a controversially long run.

The former White House press secretary, whose mere presence in the cast caused backlash amongst fans, continually received the lowest scores on the show but was saved week after week by audience votes. But during the elimination portion of Monday night's show, Spicer found himself in the bottom two against country singer Lauren Alaina. The judges opted to save Alaina, who had historically scored significantly higher than Spicer. Judge Bruno Tonioli thanked the former Trump staffer for being such a good sport on the show, referencing the fact that Spicer performed each week with a smile on his face despite not being a very good dancer.

After seeing fan favorites like Queer Eye star Karamo Brown and actress Kate Flannery get sent home over Spicer in previous weeks, fans were beyond thrilled that Spicer finally got the boot.

In the weeks leading up to Spicer's elimination, the show's judges had made it blatantly obvious that they felt he should have been the one going home. They even went so far as to explicitly tell last week's victim of elimination, Kate Flannery, that it shouldn't have been her.

But Spicer seems to be pleased with his run on the show. Following his routine earlier in the evening, Spicer said that he was "so happy" that he decided to join the competition and that everyone on the show felt like family.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
