Danielle Brooks Has a Message for ‘Plus-Sized Girls’ on Oscars Weekend
Danielle Brooks brought major cleavage to the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday — and a body positivity message that really resonates.
“I let the girls ring out today. I think that’s the biggest difference. I’m comfortable. I’m in some harem kind of pants from Donna Karan’s new line, Urban Zen, and I just feel free and fresh,” she told Yahoo Style.
The reason for the ensemble, which also included a $10 necklace?
“This is for me. And really the reason I am wearing this is for the plus-sized girls, to let them know that you can wear stuff like this too and do it in a classy way. I think that’s important, because a lot of us feel like we can’t be on the trend, but we can. So that’s why I’m wearing it too,” she says.
Brooks knows how to dress for her body type. And she relied on duct tape to keep her ladies in check. Her stylist, Kareem James, collaborated with Brooks on her look. “We made it work together. I had to figure out the tricks, and he came out with this great jumpsuit,” she says.
As for the new season of Orange Is the New Black, which premieres on June 9 on Netflix, Brooks was mum. “It’s going to be very intense,” she promised.
