Danielle Brooks is 'PHAT,' and that's why she refuses to retouch her swimsuit photos
With over 2 million followers on Instagram, Orange Is the New Black star Danielle Brooks doesn’t just use her powerful platform for the perks of popularity but also to spread messages of body positivity — and her fans are totally here for it.
Brooks recently posted two portraits of herself wearing a one-piece high-cut bathing suit and beaded cornrows with the same caption: “Why Photoshop when you this P?H?A?T (Pretty, Hot, and Tempting).” Shortly after posting, her first photo received countless comments and more than 243,000 likes.

Comments included:
“That’s a good line. You are not only gorgeous but inspirational!”
“I love her. I wish I was stacked like her.”
“BEAUTIFUL.”
“Slay us, we are your dragons”
“Work it girl. You are a true beauty.”
The positive responses to her first post may have led to Brooks posting the second photo, in which she is turned away from the camera and showing off her cheeky swimsuit. One person jokingly wrote, “Yes, orange is the new black!!”

This isn’t Brooks’s first rodeo when it comes to getting people engaging on the topic of body positivity. In 2015, the actress shared a gym selfie and revealed how she struggled with sharing pictures that showed off her figure. “I’ve always wanted to do this but have felt shameful and have told myself ‘until my body is perfect I’m forbidden.’ Today my inner being told me to turn up the notch on my self-love. I should not be ashamed of my body. I’m not a walking imperfection! I’m a Goddess,” she wrote in the caption. “Secondly, I’m a confident woman! That doesn’t stop once I take off my spanx.”
On top of her self-love social media messages, she also shined in a Lane Bryant #ImNoAngel campaign. She opened up to Yahoo Lifestyle about being featured in such an empowering, inclusive ad, saying she finally felt as if she was being represented as a curvy woman. “I just want people to understand the power of when you see yourself for the first time,” Brooks said.
Will Brooks continue to spread inspiring messages of body positivity? By the looks of her many Insta-glam photos, the obvious answer seems to be yes!
