David Beckham Roasts Victoria Beckham for Stretching the Truth About Her Upbringing During Documentary Filming

David Beckham's new Netflix docuseries Beckham dives deep into the soccer superstar's life both before and after his global fame, including parts of his personal life and his relationship with wife Victoria Beckham. In one interview, Victoria reflects on her childhood and her background growing up, but she seemingly stretched the truth on camera, leading her husband to step in.

"We're very, very working class," Victoria stated of her upbringing. As soon as she said this, David popped his head in the door from the other room and told her to "be honest."

"I am being honest," Victoria stuttered. To show that she was exaggerating—to say the least—about her upbringing, he asked her a simple question: "What car did your dad drive you to school in?"

As she tried to explain herself, David interrupted her and urged her to be short and sweet, insisting she only give one answer. "It's not a simple answer," she contended. Her husband asked again: "What car did you get your dad to drive you to school in?"

Finally, she told the truth that David was seemingly trying to pull out of her. "OK, in the '80s, my dad had a Rolls-Royce," the ex-Spice Girl confessed. David simply thanked her for the answer and quickly ducked his head back out of the room.

It might have appeared to be a contentious interaction to some, but it was more a playful way of getting her to not stretch the truth about growing up working class when she came from a well-to-do family. Beckham director Fisher Stevens explained that their dynamic was on full display during the more than 40 combined hours of filming interviews with them. "Frankly, I was quite moved by their relationship at the end of the day, and—after all they’ve been through—how much they love each other, and how close they are."

Wasn't there a reason she was known as Posh Spice?
