David Harbour Says His Wife Lily Allen Has 'Mixed Feelings' About His 60-Pound Weight Loss
Why do we—men—bother? We spend years preening, posing and toning and for what? Because honestly, it seems that women don't really care.
That was the point made by Rob McElhenney after his Hollywood transformation—"my wife really was displeased with the way I looked, because she felt like I was trying too hard," he said – and now actor David Harbour has said that his wife, singer, songwriter Lily Allen, preferred him a little bit bigger and a little bit scruffier.
Speaking to People magazine, Harbour revealed that having gained weight for his role in the Netflix series Stranger Things and then having gained even more weight, and added an unkempt beard, for his role in the recently released Black Widow movie, by his own admission, he wasn't looking his best when he first met his future wife.
"It's a true testament to my undeniable charisma when I say that my wife met me at 280 lbs. with this beard and this hair," said Harbour, dryly. "We went on a date at the Wolseley [restaurant] in London, and she really fell for me at my worst, physically and hair-wise."
More than that, when Harbour did drop 60lbs in order to portray his Black Widow character, Russian solider Alexei Shostakov, as a young man, Allen had "mixed feelings" about her husband's new look.
"She honestly has some mixed feelings about it. Which is a good place to be in a relationship," said Harbour. "It's really good to start the relationship from that part, as opposed to being the young, handsome buck and watching yourself degenerate over the years."
Of course, this is all in jest and Allen obviously loves Harbour whatever his weight – even saying that her husband "was so gorgeous it was an outrage." How sweet.
