A day to celebrate! Check out what's happening on July 4th in the Athens area

The Athens area is buzzing with excitement as Independence Day approaches, and several events are lined up to make this day memorable.

Families, friends and neighbors are gearing up to celebrate with parades, vendors, fireworks and plenty of activities on Thursday, July 4.

Colbert's Annual July 4th Independence Day Parade

The parade begins at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Old Colbert Elementary School, now the City Hall, located at 60 W. First Ave, according to the city's website. Participants in the parade are asked to arrive by 7:30 a.m. to line up and receive instructions.

Fireworks, fireworks and more fireworks

The City of Jackson will have a fireworks display on Thursday, 7-9 p.m., at 567 Ernest Biles Dr. There will be free parking, free entrance, and no concessions.

Star Spangled Snellville on Thursday, 4-10 p.m., on the Snellville Towne Green, 2342 Oak Rd., with family friendly entertainment and festival foods. The event is free to attend, however, the all-day activity kids zone arm band is $15. There will be no coolers allowed. All rides will close at 9 p.m. and the fireworks display will start when the sky becomes dark, approximately 9:30 p.m.

Oglethorpe County Recreation Department will host their fourth annual Independence Day Celebration with vendors opening at 6 p.m. Thursday and fireworks at 9 p.m. at 34 Lakeshore Dr., Crawford.
