A Day to Remember: Abilene YMCA Preschool Graduation
ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — Graduation marks the start of a new chapter in life, whether that be entering the workforce or even beginning elementary school. In Abilene, the YMCA hosted a preschool graduation ceremony to celebrate the students’ achievements and mark the beginning of a new journey.
A total of 29 young graduates took the stage Friday in a special ceremony honoring their accomplishments and their next step into kindergarten. Held at St. James United Methodist Church, the ceremony included a variety of songs, diplomas, and award presentations.

The room was packed with proud parents, grandparents, and other family members, with only standing room available. Jackie Wilson, with the YMCA preschool program, presided over the ceremony and shared words of encouragement for both the students and parents alike.

“Graduation is one of those events in life that is the end of something and the beginning of something, and for them, it’s the end of preschool, which is bittersweet for us because we know we have to let them go and grow up, but it’s also the beginning of their elementary education and they are ready,” Wilson said.
Enthusiastic responses were given by the graduating children when asked what they wanted to be when they grow up. Answers ranged from a dentist to a cowgirl, a teacher, a mermaid, and “a policeman like my daddy.”
