Day trips to Barcelona from the Costa Brava
Richard Webster writes
My family and I are going to Platja d’Aro on the Costa Brava in July. We would like to attempt a day trip to Barcelona. We will have a hire car, but wonder if there are any better ways of approaching this.

It’s a reasonably easy run by car, but, yes, parking in the city can be expensive and difficult, even in summer when the traffic is much diminished. In July there are buses running almost hourly from Platja d’Aro (€16.30 return per person; check sarfa.com for exact times and tickets) which take you to Barcelona’s Estació del Nord in around 1hr 45mins.

From here it’s a short walk to the Arc de Triomf metro station, or a 10-minute walk to the lovely Parc de la Citadella and the Born neighbourhood, where you’ll find the Museu Picasso. You can also walk from the station to Pla?a Catalunya, where the city’s two most famous boulevards — La Rambla and Passeig de Gràcia — meet.
