Daycare allegedly refuses to allow boy's godfather to attend Father's Day event
A Texas mother says that her son’s godfather was barred from attending their new daycare’s Father’s Day event, despite him stepping up to serve as a father figure.
Tiffany Tillotson told KTRK that just two days after enrolling her three-year-old, Nas, into Parent’s Choice Daycare in Spring, Texas, she made the decision to remove him after she was informed Nas’ godfather could not attend the “Doughnuts with Dad” event on Friday.
Nas’ godfather, Jason Moore, wanted to ensure that the young boy never felt different for not having a father in his life. It was a decision that was close to his heart as he, himself, grew up without a father.
“I think every young man — white, black, purple, blue — should have a father figure in their life,” Moore told the station.
Tillotson, in turn, felt that the special day for fathers would be “something cute” that her son’s godfather could participate in, especially since it’s a holiday Nas isn’t typically able to celebrate.
According to Tillotson, daycare leaders said they did not want extra people at the event. When informed that Moore would be stepping in for Nas’ father, they said he could not attend for security reasons.
However, the daycare is aware that Moore has consent to pick up Nas from the school, according to Tillotson and Moore.
“If I’m giving you permission to pick up my child and you have all consent from me to do that, why would you not have consent to sit down and eat a doughnut with him for an hour?” Tillotson said.
Even if Parent’s Choice Daycare provided an apology to Tillotson, she says the damage is done and she is currently searching for a new daycare for Nas.
“Every family doesn’t have the structure that they believe every family has,” she said. “They should make exceptions for those that have differences.”
Parent’s Choice Daycare did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
