Dean McDermott Shares Bombshell Confession About Tori Spelling Split

Dean McDermott is revealing the truth of some unknown details surrounding his and Tori Spelling's breakup.
The 56-year-old opened up to DailyMail about his relationship with the Beverly Hills, 90210 star, and what ultimately led to the unraveling of their 18-year union. Most notably, it was revealed that he was actually nowhere near sober when he announced their separation in June.
For the first time, the Canadian actor is taking responsibility for the failure of the marriage and his own faults, admitting that the former couple began to grow apart five years ago and haven't shared a bedroom since 2017, their issues made worse by his struggles with addiction and substance abuse.
"All Tori's ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman," he told the outlet. "I'm taking accountability for that today, and it's the biggest amend that I'm ever going to have to make."

McDermott divulged he was deeply depressed and would emerge into fits of rage, often influenced by alcohol and prescription drugs, causing his wife and children to be "petrified." Many times passing out after a binge, he described leaving a distressed Tori frantically checking on him to make sure he was still alive on several occasions—a part of what went into him being almost impossible to live with, he noted, in hindsight.
As he continued to deliver the interview, he was tearful and visibly overcome with emotion, as he recounted his missteps throughout his and Spelling's marriage.
"It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos [prescription meds] by myself, with a beautiful family in the other room," he explained. "That's what it led to and that's what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori."
McDermott added: "I couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling."
The actor is reportedly sober now, after having lived in a "life-saving" rehab center over the summer. Though he has not seen his children—five of whom he shares with the actress—he is desperate to make amends with his family, and he and Tori have begun communicating again amid rumored relationships with new people for both of them.
Still, he has no regrets for the life they shared. "It was a total fairytale. I mean, it was a beautiful love story. Love at first sight and getting married in the most beautiful way possible," he recollected, calling it a "dream come true," despite dealing with Hollywood criticism.
"After we got married, they were all saying 'give it six months.' Well, so much for six months. We showed you, because it's been 18 years and five kids," he said, later adding, "It's going to be living the rest of my life making amends because I took something that was really beautiful and I just tore it down year after year, day after day."
