Deena and Kristin of 'Big Little Feelings' Have Very Different Opinions on When To Take Down Christmas Trees
Big Little Feelings' Deena Margolin and Kristin Gallant
Most of us have our Christmas trees up by now and have chosen their themes or at least decorated them with plenty of lights, ornaments and bows. While there's plenty of debate around when it's the best time to put up a Christmas tree (some people swear it's best to go up before Thanksgiving!), there are also some different opinions regarding the ideal time to take down your tree.
While Taylor Swift has written lyrics that make it sound like leaving Christmas lights up 'til January is a bold move, there are plenty of other hot takes on this holiday debate. Deena Margolin and Kristin Gallant of Big Little Feelings (a game-changing parenting resource with more than 3 million Instagram followers) and a refreshingly-honest-about-motherhood new podcast called After Bedtime With Big Little Feelings share their Christmas tree timelines with Parade.
First, Gallant had to call out her BFF and co-podcaster, Margolin. "She leaves her tree up until, what, May? Was it May this year?" Gallant laughs.
And she wasn't far off with that guess.
"We had a fake Christmas tree and we left it up for literally nine straight months," Margolin admits. "And [we] decorated it for different holidays, by the way! It was like a New Year’s tree [and] a Valentine’s tree."

Meanwhile, Gallant says her decorating and take-down schedule is "pretty standard" after Christmas, instead of leaving the tree up for months after the holiday.
That being said, she acknowledges, "Everyone can celebrate their own way—there’s no one right way to do it."
So, how do these best-friends-turned-business-partners prefer to celebrate the holidays?
For Margolin, it's a mix of being in the kitchen and binge-watching holiday movies. "I love holiday baking, I love to do cookie decorating with the kids," she says. "You may not know this about me, Kristin, [but] I like to watch Netflix-style Hallmark movies. I love those—all the holiday movies about someone who moves from a big city to a small city and finds love."
Gallant adds that she and Margolin appreciate the extra family time that this time of year brings. "I think we’re big holiday people, especially after having kids," she tells Parade. "With kids, every holiday is just the best... And so for me, [it's] more about gathering and warmth and just being together."
