Delta And Coca-Cola Apologize After Handing Out ‘Creepy AF’ Napkins Telling People To Flirt And Give Out Phone Numbers
Delta Airlines decided it was a good idea to hand out Diet Coke napkins encouraging everyone to flirt with their fellow passengers, and now they're apologizing for it. And thank god for that, because frankly, it was weird. I don't think I'm alone in the fact that I'm not trying to attract any sort of attention when flying. Nothing about my plane sweatpants are saying, "hit on me!" I'd rather devour my Hudson News snacks and fight over the arm rest in peace. Twitter seems to agree.
Travelers began sharing the "creepy AF" messages on social media, questioning the brands' *interesting* marketing strategy. "Pretty sure no one appreciated the unsolicited phone numbers in the 'good old days' and they sure as heck don't want the number of someone who has been gawking at them on a plane for hours today. Not a good look," one passenger, @ducksauz, wrote on Twitter. Two more called them "awful" and "unintentionally creepy."
The napkins included comments like, "Be a little old school. Write down your number and give it to your plane crush" and "Because you're on a plane full of interesting people and hey... you never know." There were even blank spots on them for people to fill out with their names and numbers. Who thought this was a good idea???
Hey @Delta and @CocaCola These napkins are creepy AF. Pretty sure no one appreciated unsolicited phone numbers in the ‘good old days’ and they sure as heck don’t want the number of someone who has been gawking at them on a plane for hours today. Not a good look. pic.twitter.com/PJAiurFRMh

Napkins received from @Delta on Wednesday flight seem unintentionally creepy, especially after reading the smaller print. Swing and a miss, @DietCoke. pic.twitter.com/eKaMruqqUR

This isn't the first time Delta and Coca-Cola have collaborated, but even they recognized the campaign was a miss. "We rotate Coke products regularly as part of our brand partnership, but missed the mark with this one," a Delta spokesperson told INSIDER. "We are sorry for that."
Coca-Cola also apologized for offending customers, a representative for the company said to INSIDER. "We worked with our partners at Delta to begin removing the napkins last month and are replacing them with other designs."
Good riddance...
