Resolution Games, makers of the hit VR TTRPG Demeo, are working with Wizards of the Coast on the first Dungeons and Dragons VR game. Resolution made the announcement in a brief statement and said that production is still early in development. A release date, name, and other information will come at a later time.

“As anyone who’s played Demeo can guess, we’re incredibly huge fans of tabletop roleplaying games,” Tommy Palm, Resolution CEO and founder said in a statement. “They have an unparalleled power to bring people together to create shared experiences, and that’s something we’ve tried to capture, too, with nearly every release in our library. We’re beyond humbled to have the opportunity to work with such an incredible IP and look forward to sharing the first details of this new project in the future.”

Resolution is no stranger to making popular games that make smart use of virtual reality. 2023’s Racket Club was one of the best sports games of the year, and 2022’s Spatial Ops earned recognition for how it expanded the medium’s potential.

“Resolution Games has a clear understanding of how to bring players together and capture the fun of tabletop gaming on digital platforms in an accessible way,” Eugene Evans, SVP of digital strategy and licensing at Wizards of the Coast said. “They are an ideal partner to bring a new Dungeons and Dragons video game to life in VR and beyond.”

Resolution’s strong track record with Demeo aside, there’s pretty good reason to greenlight a new Dungeons and Dragons game in 2024. The critically acclaimed, multi-award winning Baldur’s Gate 3 – a success on a scale that few predicted at the time – brought new attention from in and outside the games industry to Dungeons and Dragons’ storytelling potential.
